Couples Therapy

As a Couples Therapist I am here to assist you in creating the space that allows each partner to be heard and your relationship to grow. I bring my understanding of relationship dynamics, my observations of what happens during the relating between you and my curiosity about both of your perspectives on your relationship. I can help you make time to face the difficulties in your relationship that seem hard to address alone and discover the strengths you have as a couple.

Art therapy

As an Art Therapist I am here to support you to explore your experiences using creativity and play with art materials through drawing, painting, making and reflecting. Creativity can help to access thoughts and meanings outside of conscious awareness and express thoughts and feelings it is difficult to find words for. I am there to support you in developing your use of materials and to discover ways to get started that help you to explore your thoughts and feelings and expand your creative potential.

Pesso Boyden Psychotherapy

Pesso Boyden Psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses a body-based approach to accessing thoughts and feelings and finding ways to heal and working to create new possibilities in the clients mind. I have been training in this method since 2023 and have completed a Foundation training, finishing the full training in the early part of 2025. Currently I integrate Pesso Boyden elements into my therapy practice and will be developing my use of this work over the coming year.

Online Therapy

I’ve been providing Online Therapy both for Couples and Individuals since the beginning of the pandemic. During the first months of the pandemic I undertook training to help me adapt to this environment leading onto obtaining a Diploma in Online Therapy. I continue to offer Online Therapy alongside face-to-face work.

I learnt that Online Therapy is not only a useful practical approach for many but also an effective therapeutic option with unique aspects that is beneficial and effective. It offers options to those that have limitations around location, disability or time and allows people to choose from a wider range of therapists.

Couples often find Online Therapy offers a useful way of committing to ongoing therapy by accommodating their busy lives and calendars. Sometimes people find face to face therapy difficult and online therapy can offer a useful alternative.

It is also possible to work with a blend of face to face and online work creating a mix that can be adapted to individual needs and circumstances.

What can therapy help with?

Common reasons that people come to therapy can be depression, anxiety, loss and bereavement, problems at work, problems in relationships, family difficulties, previous trauma, mental health difficulties and diagnoses, feelings of dissatisfaction, disconnection or loneliness. I have worked with a wide range of struggles and difficulties, but my areas of particular experience and interest include dealing with trauma, mental health difficulties and grief.

Therapy can also be a way to deepen your understanding of yourself or your relationship without their being an immediate crisis that brings you. Setting aside some time and space to think about things with another person who is trained to help you learn from your experiences can be helpful.

Throughout the process we will reflect on how the therapy is going, any changes you are noticing and what strengths you have and can develop.

Fees & availability

My practice is in-person in Frome, Somerset and online nationally and internationally.

Sessions last one hour for both individual and couples therapy. Sessions take place usually on a weekly basis at a set time either in-person in Frome or online. We can also work with a blend of these two. I carry a couple of lower cost places for those on benefits/low wage. Please contact me to enquire about availability.

All work starts with an initial assessment session which can last up to 75 minutes. This session is for us to get to know each other, thinking about what you are needing and hoping for from therapy and consider how we might work together and the initial commitment you are wanting to make. It gives you the chance to meet me and get a feel for whether I am the therapist you want to work with – it is helpful when there is a good fit between therapist and client.

Sessions Fees:

Individual Sessions - £60

Couples Sessions - £80

FAQs

What happens when I make contact?

You can contact me by email, through the contact form on this website, or by phone and ask any immediate questions you might have. From here I usually suggest an initial session for us to meet, either online or face to face. During this we would discuss and think about what is bringing you to therapy and what you are hoping for. In this meeting I can learn about you, and you are able to get a feel for me and decide whether I am someone you could feel comfortable working with.

There’s no obligation to take things further, and you don’t have to decide at this stage. If we agree to work together then we would arrange further sessions. These are an hour in length and usually take place weekly at the same time. We work together for as long as you feel you need, and we can discuss what this might look like in the initial meeting.

How long will it take?

This is a difficult question to answer because it depends upon each individual or couple, where they are at and what they are wanting to get out of the work.  It is something we can discuss in the initial stages but as a guide, consider how long you have lived with the difficulties you are facing and how much they affect you?  If something is a shorter-term problem, then this might more easily resolved than something that you have been affected by for a long time.

Many people find that it is helpful to engage for at least 3 months to achieve something useful.  Others find it helpful to continue for longer periods.

Is couples therapy right for us?

For couples considering therapy it might feel difficult to know whether it is right for you both at this time.  In such cases it can be helpful to undertake a pre-therapy consultation period.  This is a set number of sessions (usually 4 or 5) to explore where you both are at and to look at each partners commitment to working on the relationship. In these sessions we can look at some techniques to manage certain difficulties and consider what you each might need going forward, be that therapy or something different.  Contact me to discuss if this is a better option for you.

Do I need to be good at art to do Art Therapy?

Sometimes people come to art therapy thinking that they need to have some ability or skill in art, drawing or making. This is not the case. Partly this is because in art therapy our interest isn’t primarily in skill or making aesthetic judgements. Mark making and scribbles can hold as much meaning as a carefully crafted piece of work. All that is needed is an interest and a willingness to try.

What should I consider when working online?

Online or distance therapy happens using either a video or voice only connection over the internet. You remain somewhere comfortable in your personal space for the duration of the session. There are a variety of reasons that online therapy can be helpful and beneficial, and it might be something worth considering if you are finding face to face therapy difficult due to access requirements, location or local therapist availability.  Some people like to use a blend of face to face and online work creating a mix that might work better for their individual needs or circumstances.

How do I pay?

Payment is made via bank transfer in advance on a monthly basis unless alternative arrangements are agreed between us. I will provide you with a full copy of my practice policies and payment details before we first meet. When able I carry a small number of lower cost places for those on benefits/low wage - please contact me to enquire about availability. I review my fees annually in March/April.
